Soothe your allergies with a popsicle!

 Reece Carter

Sniffles and sneezes are the sound of spring. Pollen triggers cells called mast cells to release histamine and the result is annoying allergies. But if you’re tired of relying on pharmaceutical quick-fixes, I have just the thing for you. Citrus fruits contain vitamin C and bioflavonoids, which act as a natural antihistamine. Add to that one of my favourite herbal teas, elderflower, and you’ve got a remedy that will help dry the sinuses and decrease inflammation.

What you’ll need

 (makes four popsicles)

  • Boiling water
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 8 tsp dried elderflower
  • Manuka honey (or stevia), to taste
  • Chopped fruit, to decorate

Preparation

Make a tea with the elderflower and leave to steep for ten minutes, covered. Strain, and add the lemon juice and honey. Stir through.

In a popsicle mould, place the chopped fruit and pour in the tea.

Freeze, and enjoy daily to reduce symptoms of hayfever. This is also a great recipe for the kids!
