(NaturalPath) On FoxNews.com, Dr. Manny Alvarez fielded a question regarding the link between the herb Vitex, also known as the chaste berry, and its effect on the symptoms of PMS and other women’s menstrual issues. He noted that while there aren’t any strong studies linking Vitex and fertility there are human studies linking the herb to helping with PMS including a 2012 study our of Tehran University in Iran.

Dr. Alvarez brought in Chris Kilham, the Medicine Hunter to discuss Vitex further. Kilham had experience with the herb in Morocco.

“I would say that for the most part, the traditional use – which is quite broad and extensive [and] I regard very highly – currently exceeds the human clinical studies, Kilham said. “There have been human studies showing that Vitex or chaste berry works, and it seems to work well. There are no serious negative effects that we know of. Overall, I would give vitex or chaste berry a thumbs up.”
