Rich in collagen and the healing properties of turmeric (anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory) this broth is badass for beautiful skin, hair and healthy joints. The secret ingredient may surprise you.
Another lifetime ago, I worked for a major cosmetics company. Most of what we sold was “color”, think eyeshadow, lipstick etc. The higher ups wanted us to wear lots of color, thinking that if we wore more of it, we would sell it. I was good at sales, and won several sales contest, but I rarely wore any makeup at all. In fact, I only wore it to meetings where the bosses would notice. Twice a month I would begrudgingly line my eyes and lips (yes, this was the nineties, and lipliner was BIG) and wear the two colors of eyeshadow, finishing it all off with a dusting of facepowder. I hated it, and this was before I knew that most cosmetics are loaded with toxins such as lead. It was too much. But for them, it still wasn’t enough. One day my Boss sat my down to reprimand me once again for my failure to comply with the painted face requirement. I listened patiently and then made my case. I said, “Look, we also sell skincare, and most of our clients are more interested in looking healthy and youthful than looking like a glamour shot. My sales are great because I look real. You can see my skin. Take it or leave it.”
After that I was left alone, and I always did sell more skincare products than the other salespeople.
Nice skin is partly due to genetics, but lets not forget that we alter our genetics with daily choices we make; so beautiful skin is a choice.
Your skin is your largest organ, mostly made up of water, fats and protein. It is also a major detoxification pathway, so you never want to put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t put in your mouth. Harsh chemicals can enter your bloodstream through the skin as well.
Collagen is the most plentiful protein in the human body and it provides strength and structure to your skin. Some types of collagen are stronger than steel ounce for ounce!
Collagen also aids in skin healing, but most collagen molecules are too large to pass through the skin. Supplementing with collagen, along with a healthy diet and toxin free lifestyle is a great way to help support healthy skin.
Chicken feet are so rich in collagen that this broth takes the consistency of gelatin when refrigerated. It will return to liquid state when reheated. Do not microwave.
