Rose Geranium Essential Oil as Source of Anti-inflammatory Drugs

(NaturalPath) According to a study out of Algeria, the essential oil rose geranium will be able to be used as the source to create new and safe anti-inflammatory drugs.

The major components of rose geranium essential oil (RGEO) are citronelleol (29.13 percent), geraniol (12.62 percent), and citronellyl formate (8.06). The essential oil at an amount of 100 mg/kg was able to significantly reduce the paw edema with a comparable effect to that observed with the positive control. When the dose was five or 10 ml of RGEO per ear, the inflammation was reduced by 73 and 88 percent respectively.
