I have a thing for healthy beverages. Creating a delicious tea, tisane, elixir, juice, or smoothie gives me a quick and creative break from anything I am doing: from working, homeschooling my kids, gardening, or even housecleaning. It also makes little moments such as visiting with a friend, listening to a favorite podcast, or enjoying the sunset more fun.

These days I am always looking for new ways to incorporate turmeric, the most widely studied medicinal plant, into my diet. I always buy high-quality organic, non-GMO, nonirradiated turmeric powder, but always opt for the fresh root when I can find it in my local market. I have yet to figure out how to successfully grow turmeric in my garden. If you have been successful, please share any tips you have!

Tumeric and her cousin ginger, work deliciously together in this golden smoothie.
