FDA Mandates Breast Density Disclosure in Mammography Reports to Enhance Cancer Detection

On September 10, 2024, the FDA implemented a new rule requiring all mammography reports to include information on breast density. Dense breast tissue, a common condition among women over 40, can make detecting breast cancer more challenging and is considered a risk factor for the disease. The rule, part of an update to the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA), aims to raise awareness and improve early detection. While breast density increases cancer risk, lifestyle changes such as a balanced diet, regular exercise, and limiting alcohol can help lower overall breast cancer risk.
