Packed full of antioxidants and nutrients

Coffee isn’t just a way to kick start your day with a jolt of caffeine, it also contains many antioxidant and nutrients. Some of the vitamins found in coffee are B Vitamins, Magnesium, Potassium and Manganese, which are important in many physiological pathways.

Reduces Risk of Disease

Coffee also proves to be protective against various diseases and health concerns. Observational studies show that coffee drinkers have a lower risk of developing various health conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and type two diabetes. All of these chronic conditions put a strain on health care systems, and consuming coffee can be one way to reduce the occurrence of these conditions.

Reduce Risk of Cancer

Cancer is a major cause for health concerns today, and is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Various studies have examined the associations between coffee and the risk of developing cancer. Results show that coffee appears to be protective to two main types of cancer. Coffee drinkers seem to have a lower risk of developing liver and colon cancer, which are the third and forth leading cause of cancer worldwide.

Protects the Liver

The liver is an important organ that is responsible for many of the body’s detoxification processes. Things like excessive consumption, poor diet, and diseases such as hepatitis all can put excess stress on the liver. When the liver is stressed, it can cause a condition called liver cirrhosis in which liver tissue is damaged and replaced by scar tissue. However, drinking coffee can reduce the risk of liver cirrhosis. Drinking four or more cups a day has shown to lower the risk by upwards of 80 percent.

Improves Physical Performance

Caffeine is a stimulant, meaning it stimulates the nervous system and increases epinephrine or adrenaline levels in the body. It helps to send us into the “fight or flight” response, which can be useful for us when doing physical activity and sports. It has been shown that coffee can be an ergogenic aid and reduce perceived exertion when taken before an activity. It might just give athletes that extra boost they need.
