Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a method of what is called “tapping.” Emerging research indicated this method could be useful in the treatment of a wide array of mental and physical ailments.
With growing concern about the rates of military service personnel suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), there is a strong need for quality treatments and interventions. EFT is emerging as a possible answer to this problem.
EFT is a form of energy psychology. The idea is that by performing these tapping techniques, it can release traumatic memories. The theory is that it reduces stress-controlling cortisol levels, diminishes the intensity of emotional traumas, and modifies the way the brain processes emotional information. EFT has also been tested against other therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and drug-based treatments. A randomized control trial showed that following a six-week study 90 percent of those receiving EFT showed no PTSD symptoms while only four percent of the other group receiving traditional therapy showed significant relief. Furthermore, these findings were sustained upon later follow-ups.
EFT is actually showing to cause effect on DNA directly. Research is confirming that after this treatment, you can still recall the event, but it no longer evokes the same emotional response. This means the neural pathways are being rewired so that the memory is no longer wired to that emotion.
EFT appears to be a new breakthrough therapy for anxiety, depression, PTSD and other forms of mental and physical concerns.
