According to an article posted online by Refinery29, the CDC has added seven states to their list of places that have infected salads that include Indiana, Michigan, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. According to a CNN report, the virus has already caused one death and caused 11 hospitalizations. Dole has ceased production at the contaminated facility and recalled all of their salads sent from there. No other facilities have been detected as having an outbreak.
The CDC thinks the outbreak originated out of a Dole processing plant out of Springfield, Ohio, even though the salads are sold and packaged under different brands. The virus typically causes muscle aches and gastrointestinal distress such as diarrhea. Those primarily affected are the sick, elderly, young, or those with compromised immune systems, but the disease can get anyone exposed to it.
