Nocturnal enuresis, or bedwetting, is not uncommon in children up to 6 years of age. It is a process of unknowingly passing urine while asleep. Some of the reasons this happens include small bladder and a delay in bladder maturation or can even be a symptom of urinary tract infection and stress as well as hormone imbalances. It can also be behavioral. NaturalPath has compiled a list of natural ways to combat this habit.

Providing a night light and encouragement can alter bedwetting behavior: Sometimes it’s frightening to get up at night to use the bathroom. By simply providing night lights for the child to see their way to the bathroom and by encouraging them to get up at night to go there, you can break the bedwetting habit.
Cinnamon can help stop bedwetting: This simple spice, so popular among children, can actually help stop bedwetting. Have the child chew a piece of cinnamon stick daily or combine it in powder form with sugar and sprinkle it on buttered toast for breakfast.

Dr. Jillian Finker, ND, CNS  at Finker Wellness, Inc. in New York said while there is little scientific evidence supporting the use of cinnamon for enuresis her patients have said it does help. Along with the use of a green night light (so melatonin levels aren’t lowered) it can help a child wake up and get to the bathroom more easily.
Indian gooseberry is an Ayurvedic charm against bedwetting: These are easy to give to children by crushing them with honey and a pinch of turmeric and giving a tablespoon to the child each morning.
Cranberry juice can be good for anyone’s bladder: Cranberry juice has long been used with urinary tract problems, but in the case of bedwetting it also can help. Make sure to avoid excessive liquids before bed, but give the child a cup of this juice at least an hour before bedtime and see if the bedwetting slows down or stops.
Nuts and fruits can help guard against bedwetting: Snacking is always fun before bed, but if you give your child a couple of walnuts and a handful of raisins before bed for a few weeks you will see positive results in the bedwetting battle.
Bladder exercises can help a child learn control: Smaller bladders may be the cause of your child’s bedwetting, so exercising the bladder can increase its capacity. Have your child tighten their stomach muscles and hold them tight for 5 to 10 seconds, rest for five seconds and repeat this exercise 10 times a day. Also encourage your child to hold their urine for a bit before going during the day to increase their ability to hold it during the night.
Apple cider vinegar can help with urine acidity: By giving your child a glass of water with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in it three times a day you can alter the acid levels in their stomach and reduce the urge to urinate frequently.

Fennel seeds in milk can help fight bedwetting: Warm some milk and add a teaspoon of fennel to it with two tablespoons of sugar syrup and let your child enjoy this daily. Use of fennel can be an effective way of combating bedwetting.
