Our daily diet plays a big role in how healthy we are on a day to day basis. There are even many ingredients we eat that have anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic agents. This can help us prevent and stave off diseases and even cancer—and without having to pay a small fortune.

Turmeric

A member of the ginger family, this ancient herb has an active constituent known as curcumin. This active ingredient acts as an antioxidant agent. It also has anti-inflammatory properties. It lowers histamine levels and increases your body’s production of natural cortisone. Additionally is has an anticoagulant action by preventing platelets from clumping together. The anticarcinogenic properties of Turmeric include showing growth inhibitory effect on cell lines of various cancers like those of large intestine and bone, among others.

Garlic

Garlic has been used for thousands of years because its active ingredient, Allicin, consists of a high concentration of sulfur-containing amino acids. It also acts as an antioxidant agent. Various studies have shown that consumption of high levels of garlic decreases the risk of colon, stomach cancer and melanomas by inhibiting the growth and proliferation of cancer cells.

Ginger

Ginger is one of the most widely-used condiments and has been used in Ayurvedic herbal medicines in the treatment of rheumatism, nervous diseases, gingivitis, toothache, diabetes, etc. The major compound is gingerol which has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-angiogenesis and anti-atherosclerotic pharmacological properties.

Honey

Honey has both nutritional and medicinal value. It is composed of organic acids, proteins, amino acids, minerals, polyphenols, vitamins and aromatic compounds. It also has antimicrobial, antiviral and antiparasitic abilities. Part of honey’s strong antimicrobial activity is due to its low water content and low pH. Additionally, honey inhibits the development of dental plaque, gingivitis, and periodontal diseases. In terms of cancer, honey acts as an anti-proliferating agent.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are a rich source of lycopene which comes only from plants and not from the human body, which means we need to get it solely from our diet. It is necessary to have for a healthy body. Lycopene is a significant anticancer agent. It is a scavenger of free radicals preventing oxidative stress, which causes DNA damage. Lycopene also inactivates free radicals that prevent tissue damage.
